BLURBAGE GALORE
copyright@2004

Thanks to the evil allure of livejournal's drabble communities, I have found myself in a new place.  With a ton of short pieces in different fandoms that don't qualify as ficlets let alone stories.  Most are no more than 100 words, but I've decided to share them anywho because I'm crazy like that.  So anything included on this page is SHORT with no real plot.  (don't we wish all my stories were like that? heh).  Some of these may be posted in my journal.

Again, to cover my own ass, there is a handy-dandy disclaimer because this is just for fun, peeps.

1) response to challenge # 43 - blue
Title: Eyes of A Sadist
Pairing: Sarkney

It's his eyes, she decides. She was always a sucker for blue eyes and she's noticed the way his dark blue ones follow her around a room. It's disconcerting, especially since she can still see the soul of a sadist reflect out at her, but she feels drawn to them. Drawn to him. She finds herself making the first move yet again, enclosing the distance between them, and practically pressing herself against his chest.

He's well versed in the game and simply states, "Hello Sydney."

She smiles, knowing what comes next, and responds, "Sark" before moving those last few centimeters until her lips are touching his.

2) response to challenge # 45 - january
Title: The Jog
Summary: Syd. Angst. Need there be more?

It was abnormally warm for January, she thought, jogging through the park. It was her only remaining link to her past-sprinting as fast as she could until her feet gave out or her lungs collapsed. In those few moments, her only concern was reaching the finishline and she could forget how meaningless everything felt this past year.

She wiped the sweat from her brow, pretending not to notice him sitting on the bench. He glanced at her and she wondered if he was searching for the same thing she did, seeking refuge in their old routines despite how things had changed.

3) response to challenge # 46 - mirage
Title: Desert Mirage
Summary: Syd. Thinking of Sark.

The desert was becoming too common a locale, Sydney decided, staring out the window of the utility vehicle. It seemed every mission was too common of an occurrence, usually ending with her and Vaughn uncomfortably ignoring one another while the covenant succeeded in another well placed hit.

Sydney squinted into the sunlight, and blinked against the vision of Sark riding a horse about 100 yards away. It can't be, must be a mirage, she thought, replaying her last conversation with him--infuriating, making her unsure whether to kill him or kiss him.

4) response # 1 to Challenge # 47 - Strange
Title: The Strange, Part I
Summary: Syd. Thinking of Sark.

Strange, Sydney decides, is experiencing an emotion grander than love and hate, but as complicated as both.

Strange is having that feeling for a psychopath.

Strange is the only word to describe the adrenaline coursing through her or the compulsion to get closer to him whenever he smirks in her direction.

Strange is the way she feels when he's not around or wakes up in some hotel room to find that he's left already, but everything still smells of him.

Strange is the explanation she supplies her father with when he badgers her for a reason-why, how-that she loves Sark.

5) response # 2 to Challenge # 47 - Strange
Title: The Strange, Part II
Summary: Sark. Thinking of Syd.

Strange, Sark decides, is the way a woman like Sydney moves-determined and sure of herself all the while fighting not to drown in her emotions.

Strange is the magnetic pull he feels toward her when she pretends not to notice he's in a room, brushing past him without so much as a hello or a punch in the face.

Strange is how she tastes salty like tequila-he imagined a more wholesome taste like strawberries or vanilla.

Strange is the fact that for some reason she chooses him. Over Michael Vaughn, over her father, over her job. She chooses him.

6) response to challenge # 48 - Father's Day
Title: Card Shopping
Characters: Sydney, Vaughn

Sydney stared at the father's day cards, perusing over words of love and pride. Things she could no longer muster within herself, feeling only the betrayal and pain of her father's lies.

He always warned her about setting herself up for disappointment, but she never imagined it would be him-pretty stupid considering their history of half-truths.

She should've known better. When would she learn her lesson and stop trusting all the wrong people?

Familiar hands rested on her shoulders, turning her around and greeting her with a reassuring smile. She forced a smile and said, "Take me home, Michael."

7) my response to challenge # 49 - truth or dare
Title: Truth or Dare
Characters: Sydney/Sark

Being around Sark was like living in a neverending game of truth or dare. Except he never dared her with words. It was all in that smirk and the way his crystal eyes gleamed as he shrugged, as though to call you a coward or question your integrity, without a peep.

It drove her crazy. Worse was the fact that she always ended up going along with him, finding herself in situations more and more often where she forgot who she was supposed to be and acted out like some sex-crazed teenager, a woman with no moral compass to match his own lacking.

JOAN OF ARCADIA

1) challenge # 24 - Quotes
Title: Pondering Imagination
Summary:  Joan.  Pondering Adam.
Quote Used: "You have a very limited and uncreative way of looking at the situation." -Don Juan DeMarco

Why is it that anything involving Adam Rove removes my ability to think? I never planned to lack imagination. I’ve always thought I had plenty to go around. I mean, I talk to God. Hello. Doesn’t that scream creativity? Maybe insanity, but I prefer to believe that I possess an artistic soul.

While I’m not a genius like my brother, I’m not completely retarded. I should be able to think of a gift for my boyfriend without it leading to fights, tears or both. Just like I should’ve known how I felt about him and shouldn’t have destroyed his sculpture.

2) response to challenge # 25 - word soup
Title: Kisses
Characters: Joan

His kisses taste of lemons, Joan thinks, her eyes watering at the thought until she has to pull away. It's nothing like Adam's orange juice kisses that cause her lips to tingle from the sweet burn. She steps back, creating distance between them. How did she get here-hooking up with some guy at some random party? Was this what loss of faith did to a person?

Before she can leave, he pulls her back against him. Roughly, too rough for her liking. She reaches out for the nearest thing she can and brings a pair of scissors up between them. "Get out of my way, pervert."

3) response to challenge # 27 - crossover piece
Title: asylum
Characters: joan and jaye (wonderfalls)
A/N: I did my crossover with the short-lived but marvelous wonderfalls.

Joan always worried she would end up in a confined space filled with nutjobs. She wasn't crazy. She talked to God. It wasn't a figment of her imagination or early stages of schizophrenia and she didn't have ten personalities. But saying she talked to God made her appear that way.

She sat down, noticing another girl talking to a small monkey magnet. She dropped the magnet and said, "Stupid thing. I'm locked up and it's still giving me grief."

"The magnet talks to you?"

"I think it's God…probably the devil," she pauses, extending her hand, "I'm Jaye and I'm really not crazy."

"Joan. Me either."

4)  response to challenge # 29 - sentence use
Title: Stuck
Characters: God and Joan
Sentence: It was stuck

It was stuck. The stupid door wouldn't budge, but Joan refused to accept it. She couldn't be stuck in the janitor's closet with God. She glared over at the Holy Pain and became even more furious when she noticed how calm He appeared. She'd be calm too if she were omnipotent and didn't suffer from claustrophobia because a certain older brother thought it would be funny to lock her in a trunk when she was little.

"Aren't you going to let us out?"

"I could."

"You won't?"

"You need time away from everyone."

"I'm thinking Hawaii, not the janitor's closet."

5)  2nd response to challenge # 29 - sentence use
Title: Stuck II
Characters: God and Joan
Sentence: It was stuck

It was stuck. Her stupid locker wouldn't open quickly enough and there it was for the entire world to see: Adam and Iris swapping spit in the hall. Ew. The urge to vomit was strong. Couldn't they get a room?

It wasn't like she wanted to watch them go at it, but it was the middle of the hall, her eyes had a mind of her own and the latch on her locker wouldn't budge. Her cheeks flushed as she wondered if this made her a stalker. Adam pulled away, eyes on her. Yeah, exactly what she needed before geometry.

6)  response to challenge # 30 - picture
Title: Ominscience Ruins Everything
Characters: God and Joan

"Why are you making this harder on yourself?" He asked.

She kept walking, trying to keep the horrified expression from being too obvious on her face-Our Town auditions? He wanted her to act. What next? Would he run lines with her? Well, why not? He already appeared to have his own locker at school.

She stopped when he called out, "You're going to do it."

She complained, "It's not fair. This whole omniscience thing ruins the effect of me walking away."

"Omniscience has nothing to do with this."

"Then how-"

"You're still holding the pamphlet I gave you."

7)  response to challenge # 31 - make up week
Title: Rent-A-Friend
Characters: Joan and God
A/N: Written for Challenge #6 - Dialogue.

"Would you stop following me around? I'm not going to do it."

"Joan, I've never forced you to do anything."

"Oh right. Because using the fear of hell looming all around me isn't force."

"I like to think people create their own hells better than I ever could."

"This whole thing is weird. I didn't like Iris when I had reason to and now you're commanding me to hang out with her?"

"Again, not commanding…recommending."

"Do I look like rent-a-friend? I barely have enough time to spend with the friends and boyfriend I do have what with your constant nuisances."

8)  2nd response to challenge # 31 - make up week
Title: The Necklace
Characters: Joan/Adam
A/N: Used Challenge # 1 - Something New.

Joan stared at the necklace and smiled, allowing her fingers to roam over it, imprinting it to her memory. Maybe she and Adam were still connected after all because it was as though he had stored up all this emotion, all these things she felt she lacked, and molded within the links of the necklace.

She leaned over and kissed him. He smiled and said, "So you like it?"

"I love it, Adam. It's perfect."

"Because I know things have been…"

"Tense? Weird? All of the above?"

"Yeah."

"It's some stuff I have to deal with, but-I love this."

9)  response to challenge # 40 - make up week
Title: Beautiful Disaster
Written For: Challenge # 33 - 311 song titles
Characters: Joan/Adam

"This is a disaster," Adam complained, staring down at his sketchpad with an ominous look.

Joan shrugged. It looked okay to her. In fact, it looked better than okay. She rested her head on his shoulder. "I think it's beautiful."

"You're just saying that."

"Why would I do that?"

"You think you have to -you can be honest with me," Adam replied. He glanced from her to the drawing and added, "This isn't my type of art. I wish your mother would stop pestering me."

"Join the club."

He smiled, "You really like it?"

"It's beautiful. I swear."

"Beautiful disaster."

10)  response to # 41 - Halloween
Title: Costume Talk
Characters: Joan and Grace

"What is that?"

"It's my costume."

"Are you sure? It looks more like a dead animal," Grace commented, running her fingers over the fur.

"I'm going to be a cat."

"A dead cat?"

Joan groaned, "No, not a dead cat. A cute, cuddly cat."

"That was run over by a mack truck."

"Grace!" Joan replied in exasperation. She glared in her direction and added, "So what are you dressing up as?"

"Have you hit your head on something, Girardi? I don't dress up."

"Grace…"

"Fine. I'm going to be a young woman who fights against the system."

"So nothing?"

"Nope."

CHARMED

1) challenge # 1 - speculation piece of something you think could happen in the Season 7 Premiere
Title: The Unknown
Characters: Chris with a little Piper

Chris awoke with a start, running his fingers over his chest where his wound had been moments before. He tried to get his thoughts together. They were a jumble, filled with things he couldn’t recall before and a strange calm.

Had he moved onto another plane? Was this what death was like? It was so simple, much less than he expected.

His eyes traveled to the door and he noticed his mother there. She smiled and said, “You’re safe now, Chris. You’re home.”

He glanced around. He was home. His old home before Wyatt turned it into a museum, “How?”

2) response to Challenge #2 - write from the perspective of a minor character
Title: Sacrifices
Characters: Bianca

Sometimes I can't remember what we're fighting for, why all these sacrifices have to be made. I think about those that came before me, wondering how they'd react to seeing me choose a good life with Chris over the power.

I don't allow these thoughts to plague me too much. If they did, I wouldn't get up in the morning. Instead I wrap my arms around Chris and try to memorize him. His smell, the texture of his skin, the location of every freckle. I kiss him and focus on this moment, praying that somehow we get more of these.

3) 2nd response to Challenge #2 - write from the perspective of a minor character
Title: I'm Evil (So titles, not my forte)
Character: Adult Wyatt

Chris thinks he can save me. My little brother is out to save the world. It makes me sick. How could he even think he could defeat me? I'll find a way to get him back here, punish him for his betrayal, and make an example of him. There is no way to defeat me, not as long as I have Excalibur and people fear me.

But Chris could be a powerful allie and he is my brother. I'm not insane. Just evil. Evil and smart. Smart enough to know that I could use Chris' powers to further my position.

4) response to Challenge # 3 - word soup
Title: Going Home
Characters: Chris
Words to use: sneeze, pen, eat, and ring

Chris stared at the ring. It was a compulsion now, as if his only memory of Bianca was tied to it. He stared at it before lowering the pen to the paper. A note. A quick letter to his mother before he headed home-maybe hinting as to where she should not be on a certain day.

His head shot up when he heard his aunt sneeze. He noticed her standing behind him. He rolled his eyes, "Yeah?"

"You need to eat."

"I'm not hungry."

"Time travel can take a lot of a person."

"I'm going home, not to war."

5)  response to Challenge # 6 - pastfic
Title: Switzerland
Characters: piper - mentionings of Prue and Phoebe

Sometimes being the middle sister is a burden, Piper decides, staring at her notebook while her sisters fight in the hall. Her sisters stomp into her room and try to get her to take sides. Piper rolls her eyes and steps between them-always stepping between them--as Prue lunges for Phoebe. She realizes her voice sounds much less powerful than she intended as she declares herself Switzerland in yet another battle. Why can't they both see the other's point?

She can't help but worry that they will never get along and she'll forever be torn between the two of them.

6)  response to Challenge # 7 - dialogue
Title: Bonding
Characters: Chris, Phoebe

"That seems like a bad idea, Aunt Phoebe."

"No, I'm quite proud of it, Chris. You, Leo, quality time together…alone."

"We're not dating for god's sake."

"That's a disturbing image."

"Why can't any of you let this go? I'm not here for Leo. I couldn't care less about Leo. I'm here to help Wyatt. That's all that matters."

"I'm an empath, not an idiot. You're full of crap."

"Think whatever you want, but there's no way I'm giving up a night of searching for information to eat pizza and watch a baseball game with Leo. I don't even like baseball."

7) response to Challenge # 9 - How Soon Is Now lyrics
Title: Hateful and Hopeless
Characters: Chris

see, I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

Chris wasn't sure having faith in his father was the smartest decision he could make. It was like the dreaded flaw of the Halliwell line…hope. Wyatt used to tease him mercilessly because of his optimistic streak, saying it would be his downfall, and standing there, waiting for his father, he wondered if Wyatt was right.

Leo was trying. Leo wanted to make things work for the future, for the now, but Chris was afraid he'd waited too long. What if it was too late to fix things? What if he ended up like Wyatt in the end? Hateful and hopeless.

8)  2nd response to Challenge # 9 - How Soon Is Now Lyrics
Title: Duty
Characters: Chris (of course!)

I am the son, and the heir, of nothing in particular

Chris knows the price he pays every time he walks through the manor's front door. He's the heir to the fight, son of two magical beings who sacrificed everything for good. Sometimes he feels like it doesn't matter, that in the big scheme of things, the victories are small...meaningless.

Chris knows this but still takes up the cause, still tries to save his brother and hold his family together. It's his duty. He reminds himself of that every time Piper and Leo look at him with suspicion. Every time he's accused of something terrible. It's his duty. He's the son.

9)  3rd response to Challenge # 9 - How Soon Is Now Lyrics
Title: Wanting Love
Characters: Chris & Bianca
A/N: Two consecutive drabbles. One from Bianca POV and one from Chris.

I am human and I need to be loved
Just like everybody else does

Bianca wonders how to tell Chris the truth. How do you tell the person who loves you despite the worst in you that everything is based on a lie? It isn't now-would he see it that way? Would he realize that all she wants is to be loved, to feel like everyone else?

She doesn't want to say anything, but Wyatt will otherwise. He doesn't care that it'll destroy Chris or that his brother's fighting to save him despite all the horrible things Wyatt does to him.

She loves Chris. He has to know that's real. He has to.

~~~~~~
Chris stares dumbfounded out the window. He listens to the words, Bianca's sighs between each syllable, but it's like he doesn't hear them. He knew she had worked with Wyatt before, but to spy on him? To develop trust and a relationship? It seems sick even for his brother-was nothing off-limits?
Chris knows she's waiting for him to say something. Probably to forgive and forget because that's what Chris does. He forgives. He fixes things. He's the quintessential good guy and he's sick of it. All he wants is love. The real thing. Something that belongs to just him.
10)  response to challenge # 17 - death
Title: Forced to Talk
Characters: Piper, Paige
"What would you have me do, Paige? How am I supposed to react? I wasn't there. I wasn't with my son that day," Piper snaps. She falls into a chair, willing her rage to last so that she can keep pretending it hasn't happened. Because she can do that. She can look at her little baby and know that Chris isn't gone.
"We're going to change that future, Piper…but you lost something that day. It's okay to be upset about that loss."
"I'm sorry, but only one of Chris' parents can afford to go off the deep end at a time."
WEST WING
1) challenge # 46 - screams
Title: Screams
Pairing: Josh/Donna
Spoilers: Set post Gaza
Josh tried not to think about the screams that had radiated through the crowd in Gaza or the way Donna's pale skin had been covered with blood. He still remembered the screams when he was shot. The way the crowd scattered and the scream that stuck in his throat when he realized he was hit. Had Donna felt that same thing in those moments? Was her scream stifled by the pain? If he thought about those things he was likely to go mad, to pull Donna into his arms, wires and all, and keep her there until she woke up.
2) Challenge # 46 - screams (2nd response)
Title: Screams 2
Pairing: None really. Donna POV
I roll my eyes, dropping everything on my desk, when I hear Josh scream for me. He would disagree, of course. He prefers "bellowing." Sometimes he'll even agree that he "shouts", but never screams.
At least not according to him anyway. I disagree as the timbre of his voice echoes in my ears and I rush toward his office. The first time he ever screamed, I imagined him hemorraging on the floor, but I've since come to realize that is Josh's way. Sure enough, he's sitting there with a smile on his face as I enter and says, "I'm the man, Donna."
3) challenge #47 - gains and/or losses
Title: Mourning
Character: Josh
Spoilers:  Based off Gaza and finale
It was never easy. Losing someone. You'd think that Josh had it down to a science, considering the way people disappeared from his life. You'd think he had some sort of control over these emotions running rampant through him as he punched a fist through his window. He could hear her voice, asking him quietly, "Did you call Stanley?" and when he didn't respond, she would add in that unfaltering tone, "Call Stanley."
It wasn't like it changed anything. Donna was gone. Lost in a meaningless way, which was ironic when he thought about how much she meant to him.
4) challenge #48 - ani difranco song title
Title: Dilate (how I love this song)
Pairing: None. Just Josh.
I don't know what I'm doing, how I got here, or where that incessant humming sound is coming from. That's life on the campaign trail and it suits me. It feels right to be jolted awake in the darkness with thoughts from a dream-something about President Bartlet rolling up his sleeves-and experience nomadic confusion.
I love it like nothing else in my life-aside from my job, and being the preeminent force in said job. There is something to waking up in hotel rooms, glancing at myself in mirrors through shoddy eyes from lack of sleep. It's exhilerating.
5) challenge #48 - ani difranco song title (2nd response)
Title: To The Teeth
Characters: sam & josh
"Guns and violence are interwoven in one another. That may not have been the intention, but who cares about that now? We need to worry about getting guns off the street," Sam states. He glances at Josh, who's perusing papers, probably paying no attention because he had Donna read it first. Sam asks, "What do you think?"
"I think we'll take a beating if we go for education reform and gun control, Sam" Josh replies, still not looking at him.
"Let's hold them accountable."
"We can't. Not now," Josh says in a defeatist voice he never had before the White House.
6) response to challenge # 49 - Bird York song title
Title: Wicked Little High
Spoilers: Part of season five.
Pairing: Donna/Josh mentionings
It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I wasn’t supposed to be that girl, the one who develops unrequited feelings for her boss or the one who chooses all the wrong men to date while entertaining some sick fantasy that he’ll show up to save me from myself.
Why am I always that girl? First it was Dr. Free Ride and now it’s Josh.
It’s a funny thing, realizing my life is one wrong turn after another and acknowledging that I’m stuck. What did CJ say to me? I could’ve moved on by now.
I should’ve moved on by now.
7) respose to Challenge # 51 - Post Administration Stories
Title: Wanting
Characters: Josh/Donna...sorta
He wanted her. He had wanted for years, probably from the minute he caught her taking a message for him. He had no idea who she was, but that gut instinct he relied on, a sixth sense feeling, screamed that this woman was important so hang onto her.
He knew he ruined her relationships. At first he didn't think it was on purpose. And then Leo, that year at Christmas-shit, which Christmas?-pointed out his habit of wrecking her plans…then he knew.
Now he wanted her and he was fairly certain she wanted him. They could do it now. It wasn't a boss/assistant affair, but a friendship that led to more. Happens all the time.
TV 100 BLURBS
1) challenge - write drabbles incorporating 3 prompt words, influences or phrases: peace offering, smirk, fingernails
Title: Apologies
Fandom: Roswell - Maria/Michael
Rating: PG
Maria rested her forehead on the empty counter of the Crashdown. She was tired-physically, mentally. Sick of fighting with Michael and being apart, and found herself considering his inarticulate peace offering.
It didn't help that she made the mistake of looking at him. He wore the typical Michael smirk, but his eyes were different. They looked worn, pleading her to react somehow. He made an effort, right? He was there-a miracle considering his stubborness.
She closed the distance between them. He smiled, scooping her up in his arms, his fingernails catching in her hair, and whispered, "I'm sorry."
2) Response to challenge "sleeping with the enemy"
Title: Sleeping With The Enemy
Fandom: alias - Sydney/Sark
He's the enemy, Sydney tells herself. She uses the admonishing tone that her father or Dixon would use if they found out about these ongoing liasons she has with Sark.
She can always justify it though. She hates to-something that reminds her of her life as a double agent at SD-6. Lying to friends, covering her tracks, hiding every emotion she feels. But sometimes being with Sark is the only time she feels alive, the only time her two years gone stop ruling her life and she can simply be. It's not love so what does it matter if she sleeps with him?
X-MEN 100
1)  challenge - yard sales
Title: Yard-sales (so original, I know)
Pairing: Rogue/Pyro...kinda
Rogue wasn't sure what she was looking for at the yard sale, wandering around and observing how "normal" people lived, while imagining a life for herself somewhere in the middle of it. She pushed her hair off her face and rolled her eyes when she noticed John leaning against a tree-lost, bored and ready to kill her for dragging him along.
She moved toward him and said, "I love how you get a sense of people through their belongings."
"Yeah, I'm sure they'd be pleased to know their halfdead bonzai tree speaks volumes about their personality, or severe deficiency."
2)  response to member challenge - sleeping with the enemy
Title: Sleeping With The Enemy
Pairing: Pyro/Rogue
My mistake was thinking it could be the way it used to. Before John left me behind, before disappearing and the nights became insufferable.
"Rogue," he says, nothing more than a sigh as if he reads my mind,. He turns on the bed to face me and I temporarily forget that we're on opposite sides now. I block out the voice reminding me that John has been replaced by Pyro, this mutant filled with rage and a desire to strike back no matter what the cost.
"I miss you, John," I reply. He'll always be John to me. I love John, but it's Pyro staring back at me and love would be lost in all that hate. I allow my gloved hand to traverse the length of him, memorizing it for future reference, and continue, "I miss you, but you can't come here again."
"I know."
I feel the tears forming in the back of my throat, but manage to get out, "How am I supposed to think of you as my enemy?"
"Maybe you won't have to," he replies as he disappears out of the window and into the thickness of the night.
3)  1st response to first line meme
Title: Hidden Moments
Characters:  John, Rogue
Leaning on the table in the mall's food court, John Allerdyce absently clicked his lighter lid open and closed. It was something he did without even realizing it anymore, only noticing the swish and flick whenever Rogue would glance in his direction with that look that said, "You're starting to annoy me, John."
He smiled at her, trying not to notice the way his best friend's arms wrapped around her as though to claim her as his property. And John guessed that was true to an extent. Rogue belonged to Bobby and those feelings that flickered through John much the way his lighter did, were meant to be fleeting and those of longing that were never returned.
Except Rogue's smile didn't say that. It said things like, "You know me better than anyone."
And sometimes he thought he did. When they were both up late under the pretense of studying and she would allow her gloved fingers to graze over his arm. When they would take their early morning walks and talk about non-mutant things that neither had much experience with. When they would avoid each other afterward because things had managed to get too intense too fast and there was Bobby to consider…
John sighed and put his lighter down on the table. He looked from Bobby to Rogue and asked, "So what are we going to do today?"
4)  2nd response to first line meme
Title: Darkness Looming
Character:  Scott
Scott can't ever forget that there's an alternative. Ever since Jean died, it's all he can think about, that fighting the good fight, trying to save people like Stryker who will never accept mutants. Maybe Magneto is right-maybe a war is the only way to survive.
Jean is still all around him-her smell, her pictures, her thoughts-and he can't go that route, he won't. He can't bring himself to turn her death into something that didn't matter, nothing more than a statistic of two men's anger.
That doesn't mean he doesn't know there are other options available if Professor Xavier fails.
SPORTS NIGHT CHALLENGES
1) response to challenge # 42 - water
Title: The Drink
Characters: Dan, Casey
"I don't think this is a vodka tonic," Dan stated, pushing his glass toward Casey.
Casey didn't glance away from his paper as he pushed the glass back over and asked, "What do you think it is?"
"Water."
"That's a slight mistake on the bartender's part."
"I'd say. Taste it."
"I'm not going to test your drink, Danny."
"What if it is Vodka and I take it back? I'll look like an idiot."
"Wouldn't be the first time."
"I'm pretending I didn't hear that while enjoying my water."
"Or Vodka."
"Or Vodka. Either way, I'll enjoy it."
"Good."
"Even though a real friend would taste it for me."
2) response to challenge # 43 - routine
Title: Routine
Characters: Dan, Casey
"I have a routine, Danny. I like to sit here, read the sports section with my cup of coffee, without interruption. Afterwards I'll be more than willing to listen to your sure-to-be inane story."
"And you wonder why you're so uncool," Dan counters, lifting his feet onto his desk. He meets Casey's annoyed gaze and shrugs, "Routines are boring."
"Routines are what this country was founded on. I am an American and I love routine."
"That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. You do realize that?"
Casey sighs and points to his coffee, "Because you screwed up my routine."
"Right. Sorry."
Title: Going Crazy
Characters: Dan, Casey
"What are you doing?" Casey questioned, peering out from his New York Times at Dan, who was mumbling under his breath and pacing around their office. This was not normal Dan Rydell behavior. Usually, Dan didn't know the meaning of phrases like "suffer in silence" or "working through it on my own." When Dan didn't respond, Casey lowered his paper and asked, "Danny? It's one thing to talk to yourself, but another to answer back."
"What?" Dan replied, glancing over at Casey with one of his what-are-you-going-on-about looks that he often got, despite the fact that he was the one acting like a certifiable lunatic.
"You're acting like a crazy person."
"Is that anyway to talk to someone in therapy?"
"It would if that was why you were acting like a crazy person."
"Explain."
"You've been walking around, muttering nonsense all morning, Danny. I'm waiting for you to start quoting lyrics and dancing around in a tutu."
"Don't be ridiculous, Casey. I don't have the hips to pull off a tutu."
Casey rolled his eyes and asked, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"Nothing to talk about."
"Your actions lead me to believe otherwise."
"My actions are caffeine induced."
"And the mutterings?"
"I know not of what you speak."
"I'm pretty sure you do."
"Nope."
"And there is nothing to talk about?"
"Not a thing."
"Great."
"Yes, great," Dan replied. He sat down on the couch and then leaned forward. He took a breath and went on, "Except, well, the thing is…"
Casey smiled. Now this was normal Dan behavior and he could react to that.
GILMORE GIRLS CHALLENGES
1)  response to challenge # 3 - different perspective
Title: The Other Woman
Characters: Sherry
Sherry's POV on the 2nd season finale
I knew he loved her. She was the soulmate, the one, the whatever other romantical terminlogy you want to use. That's why we broke up. He said it was because I was too demanding and that we wanted different things, but what he meant was, "I want Lorelai and you can never be her."
I meant what I said when I called him-I was having the baby, but I didn't expect anything. I did, but he was with her. I could hear it in his voice. If Christopher chose me, I would be the consolation prize. I would always know that.
CHALLENGE 100
1) response to challenge # 42 - It was a dark and stormy night.
Title: The Scare
Characters: Michael/Maria, Roswell
It was a dark and stormy night, she noticed, her eyes moving from the television to the large bay windows. Wasn't that always the way? A scary movie accompanied by a storm and suddenly…there is a maniac in the bushes planning to kill her.
She needed to stop watching these movies on nights when Michael had to work late, she decided, pretending not to notice the thumping of branches against the windows or strange howl of the moon. Instead, she shut her eyes and hummed a tune.
Her eyes jolted open when she a hand grasped her shoulder. She jumped, ready to swing, but Michael shouted, "It's me."
"I've gotta stop watching these movies," she said to him.
Title: Heartbreak
Characters:  Seth/Ryan, The O.C.
Ryan never knew it could hurt like this. He thought he was immune to this sort of heartbreak after his childhood. He thought that growing up without a father, an alcoholic mother, and a crazy brother had made it damn near impossible for him to feel like this.
It was the one thing he was always grateful for from his upbringing - that people couldn't get to him.
Obviously that was before he met Seth.
He kept repeating Kirsten's words in his head, "He's gone, Ryan. He left."
Gone. Seth was gone. Seth had left him.
Ryan felt like he couldn't breathe every time he thought about it. It was if someone had taken a rusty piece of metal and shoved it into his gut, twisting it around for kicks. So he tried not to think about it, which was about as useful as spoon when trying to catch a fish, because then it was the pink elephant in the room with him all the time. All the time.
Seth's smile, Seth's stupid jokes that Ryan laughed at simply because Seth laughed, and Seth's way of looking at the world. That was disappeared when Seth did and Ryan needed that.
Ryan needed Seth.
Title: Moment of Bliss
Characters:  Chloe, Clark - Smallville
The feeling of sunlight warm against her skin slowly coerced Chloe to waking. She turned on her side and noticed Clark curled up in a rocking chair next to her bed. She watched him for a few minutes, sleeping peacefully, and she wondered exactly when Clark Kent had decided to become her personal savior. She couldn't decide if it was because Lana was officially off the market, if maybe thinking she had died had made him come to his senses, or if he was simply being Clark, Mr. Protector.
No matter what his reasoning, she didn't want it to stop. She was once again getting attached to his undivided attention, something that had waned over the years.
Chloe cleared her throat loudly. Clark's eyes fluttered open and landed on her immediately. They exchanged smiles and Chloe thought, "I definitely don't mind this."
LOST
1)  response to first line meme
Title: In the Old Days
Characters:  Charlie
I used to have one hell of a view. I used to be able to lean over the balcony of my flat and see calming blue water for miles. I thought I was lucky, that it proved that my band had made it and that I was a someone because I lived in a place with a bloody brilliant view.
Sitting here on what's left of a seat from the airplane, eating the same crap airplane food for yet another day (which does beat no food at all shockingly), and trying to make my hits last for as long as possible, I realize that I don't even like the ocean. Its stupid sounds keep me up all night. It keeps the lot of us trapped here with that growling, angry thing that ate the pilot. It's worthless. Almost as worthless as I feel.
But there's only so much a bassist can offer a group of crash survivors.
2)  response to challenge # 2 - traditions
Title: Charlie's Plan
Characters: Charlie
It's his new tradition, Charlie decides while walking down the beach. He jogs off in the opposite direction of everyone, allowing them to believe God knows what - he's become like Locke and taken to hunting - while he stares down at his stash.
Only occasionally is he allowed to use it. He reminds himself that it has to last. No one wants to deal with a drug addict going through withdrawal on top of everything else. He glances at the bag, creating a dodgy plan - today a smidge, tomorrow none. As if it works like that, as if it can.
HARRY POTTER
Title: Forgiveness
Characters:  Sirius, James
The first really big thing Sirius needed forgiving for was telling the others that James had it bad for Lily Evans. He couldn't recall a time ever witnessing James get so angry with him, ignoring him for days and stewing quietly in the corner. Sirius was definitely not used to that. James was the type to say what was on his mind-to shout, holler, and go with his temper and then let it blow over.
That didn't happen this time. James would look at him with this pitiable expression, as though to let him know that sometimes Sirius really was just like the rest of his family, dimwitted to anything that involved emotions.
Luckily, James did forgive him. After much begging, humiliation, and coercing both Remus and Peter into acting as his emissaries, James sat down next to him in the study room. He looked at Sirius and said, "So she still won't give me the time of day. I'm starting to get insulted."
Title: Nightmares
Characters:  Draco/Harry
The dreams come to Malfoy with disturbing frequency. There is blood on his hands, in infinite amounts, no matter how quickly he washes it away. He wakes up with a jolt and wonders where the homage to Lady Macbeth is coming from and then he remembers.
He remembers watching Harry crawl toward him, covered in blood, and being unable to move forward because of arms holding him back. He remembers the sacrifices that the boy he spent years hating made for him and the rest of wizarding world under the guise of his own revenge. He remembers nights when that hatred metamorphosed into something more, something Draco wished he could keep locked away forever.
But now the dreams were all he had left.
THE O.C.
Title:  The Moment
Characters:  Seth/Ryan
Seth stared out at the water and took in a long, restorative breath as the wind slapped against his face. This was his favorite place, he decided. Sitting on his boat, whether it was docked or out on the open water, feeling the water lurch below him as the wind flanked through his sails and clothing.
And it was all the better sharing it with someone—the someone—the person who he met as a young boy (Playstation controller in hand like the utter loser he always was--though he quickly became skilled at kicking Ryan's ass whenever the chance arose) and had grown into a man around. The guy who had appeared in his life one day like a stray puppy his father had brought home from the pound and had stuck around. Seth wasn’t used to people (other than his parents anyway) sticking around, let alone being there for him.
Ryan was his best friend and the more time he spent with Ryan, the more he knew it would be impossible not to love him.
So it was totally not his fault that he ended up kissing Ryan one afternoon. Because Ryan was irresistible. One only had to ask Marissa or Teresa for confirmation if they had any doubts.
But the difference, the thing that confused and elated and scared the fuck out of Seth, was that Ryan loved him back. Seth knew that he was the lucky one. He was lucky because Ryan felt the same way about him. Ryan was his and Seth knew that would never change. Seth knew that the way he knew his name—something that simply was and could never not be—and he found himself watching Ryan out of the corner of his eye. There was something about Ryan in that moment, a man lying languidly on a towel next to him, that made Seth’s chest constrict and nerves backfire in his palms.
Seth couldn’t help but smile. He wanted to say something, to offer up an anecdote or mention how hot Ryan looked lying there with the water reflecting off of him, but Seth also didn’t want to spoil the moment. It was so easy to do, sometimes without even realizing it, and he couldn’t recall a time recently where he and Ryan had been able to do something like this. A few small seconds in the midst of busy schedules where they could simply coexist without worrying about communicating or catching up or any of the trivialities of life.
No, things were perfect and any words would ruin it. So Seth laid back down against the warmth of the dock and nestled against Ryan. There were no words spoken as Ryan wrapped his arm around Seth and pulled him closer.
Title:  Dude, You're Arvid!
Characters:  Seth and Ryan
Seth glanced at the table and pretended not to notice that not only did magazines on concrete exist, but that Ryan was reading them. Willingly. Like on purpose. He sipped his coffee, perused the comic section of the newspaper, and went about eating his toast.
Until Ryan chuckled at something he was reading. Surely, this was some fantastical set-up? A bad dream? Because the Ryan he knew would not be laughing at anecdotes about concrete.
"Who broke you, man?"
Ryan looked up from his magazine and gave Seth that typical what-are-you-talking-about-now gaze. He shrugged and said, "What?"
Seth traced his fingers over the magazine and said, "I thought we agreed long ago that I got to be the loser in this friendship."
"Did we?"
"Yeah, and I gotta tell ya, Ryan, you're in a precarious situation here. You're not only about to pass me on the lonely geek road, you're about to pass everyone, including Arvid from Head Of the Class?"
"Who?"
Seth mock gasped, "What kind of childhood did you have?" Off the glare, Seth shrugged and said, "Oh right. Nevermind. Let's just say Arvid is bad. You don't want to be Arvid. No one wants to be Arvid."
"You're babbling again, Seth."
"It's because I'm worried and I get like that when I'm worried."
"About me being Arvid?"
"And reading magazines on concrete and liking it. What's with you? Did you fall out of your bed and hit your head?"
Ryan didn't answer. He stood up, stuff his magazine into his bag, and said, "We're going to be late."
